Surface Studied with Auger Electron Spectroscopy

چکیده
We present an Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) study of the adsorption of nitric oxide (NO) on a dean Si(100)2 × 1 surface at 300 and 550 K. Accurate measurements reveal wall resolved fine structure at Auger Si L2.3 w transitions at 62 and 83 eV. These peaks can be attributed to Si-O and Si-N bonds. Furthermore, it is argued that the broadening in the SiLi2,~W Auger transition at 83 eV at 300 K may be composed of two nearby peaks, which could be attributed to two different kinds of chemical bonding, Si-N and Si-O. The absence of a peak at 69 eV at room temperature strongly suggests the NO adsorption on a Si(100)2x 1 surface to be molecular. Dissociation of NO on the Si(100)2 x 1 surface is observed at 550 K.

The Potentiodynamic Behavior of Copper in NaCI Solutions Studied by Auger and Photoelectron Spectroscopy
The potentiodynamic behaviour of copper in brine solutions was studies. Auger and photo-electron spectroscopy were used together with electrochemical methods. It is demostrated that the passivation observed in potentiodynamic curves is due to a surface film formation on a copper electrode. It is concluded that this film must be copper (I) chloride in nature. Effect of different factors on poten...
متن کاملThe LVV Auger line shape of sulfur on copper studied by Auger photoelectron coincidence spectroscopy.
We have studied the line shapes of Cu(0 0 1)-p (2 × 2)S L2VV and L3VV Auger decay by means of Auger photoelectron coincidence spectroscopy. Measuring the LVV Auger spectrum in coincidence with S 2p1/2 and 2p3/2 photoelectrons respectively, we have been able to separate the two overlapping Auger spectra and determine their intrinsic line shapes. The two Auger transitions, though shifted in energ...
متن کاملMethanol on O/Mo( 110): specific site for methyl radical formation
The adsorption and decomposition of methanol on the variously oxidized Mo(110) surface has been studied using temperature programmed desorption spectroscopy, Auger electron spectroscopy, low energy electron diffraction (LEED) and high-resolution electron energy loss spectroscopy (HREELS). Distinct degrees of oxidation are distinguished. That giving rise to a two-dimensional surface oxide (up to...
متن کاملHigh Resolution Auger Spectroscopy in Metallurgy: an Advanced Technique for Surface Analysis
A brief review of the high spatial resolution Auger electron spectroscopy (HRAES) and its usage in metallurgy is presented. A combination of HRAES and X-ray photoelectron spectroscopy makes a powerful combination to resolve a large number of problems encountered in metallurgy. Several selected examples of such problems studied in the authors’ laboratory are presented: influence of surface activ...
متن کاملINTERACTION OF BORAZINE WITH A Re(OOO1) SURFACE, STUDIED BY LEED, TDS, AES AND ELS
The interaction of borazine (NsB,H,) with a Re(0001) surface has been studied by low energy electron diffraction (LEED), thermal desorption spectroscopy (TDS), Auger electron spectroscopy (AES) and electron energy loss spectroscopy (ELS). Two LEED patterns have been observed following borazine adsorption and annealing. One is the 2 X 2 structure, assigned to arise from atomic nitrogen. The othe...
